A sixteenth century palazzo with twenty two rooms above the harbour, a pool cut into the rock and a boat that is yours for the afternoon.
Overview
Palazzo Marisco has been a hotel since 1911 and in the same family since 1962. The twenty two rooms are spread across the old palazzo and a lower terrace building, all with sea views and most with a balcony wide enough for breakfast. The pool is carved into the cliff below the church of San Pietro and reached by a lift through the rock. The hotel's wooden launch takes guests to the Cinque Terre villages, to Palmaria island for lunch and to swimming coves that have no other access. Dinner on the terrace is a set menu of what the boats brought in that morning. Portovenere itself is quieter than the five villages, and a twenty minute drive from La Spezia station.
